Housewife commits suicide amid family dispute

A housewife has committed suicide by hanging herself with a veil amid a family dispute in Tarash, Sirajganj.

The incident took place on Sunday afternoon at the house of the deceased Rafiqul Islam in Damra village of Talam Union. Police recovered the body from her in-laws’ house in RokanpurDamra village of the upazila.

It is reported that the housewife, Sumi Khatun (23), is the wife of Sajib, son of the deceased Rafiqul Islam of RokanpurDamra village, and the daughter of Md. Rezaul Karim of Chak Binodpur village in Baruhas Union. She is a third-year student at Sirajganj Nursing Institute.

According to local sources, Sumi and Sajib eloped and got married three months ago. Since then, they have been studying together. On Sunday, they returned home together after completing their exams.

In the afternoon, amid a heated family dispute, Sumi committed suicide by hanging herself with a veil.

She was later admitted to Majnu Clinic in SherpurUpazila of Bogra district, where the doctor on duty declared her dead. Sajib and his mother fled the scene, leaving Sumi’s body behind.

Later, they contacted Sherpur Police Station from the hospital and brought Sumi’s body there.

Regarding the incident, Tarash Police Station Officer-in-Charge ZiaurRahman said, “We visited the scene, and preparations are underway at the police station to file a case of accidental death.
Necessary actions will be taken according to the autopsy report.”
