Quarterly meeting of citizens’ platform held

Under the Gender Equality and Citizen Engagement – FACING Project, the quarterly meeting of the Rangpur District Citizens’ Platform was held on Thursday.

The meeting took place in the Rangpur Sahitya Parishad Hall and was chaired by Samshara Bilkis, convener of the District Citizens’ Platform, social worker, and former NGO professional.

The session was facilitated by the project coordinator, Shamima Akter. During the meeting, Khurshida Jahan, Senior Programme Officer of Democracy Watch, reviewed the activities of the previous month and presented the work plan for the coming month.

It was decided that reports on violence against women in the upazilas would be collected monthly, and small initiatives would be undertaken to make the activities more dynamic.

Participants included Belal Ahmed, member of the District Citizens’ Platform; Motabbar Islam Thomas, convener of Mithapukur Upazila; Abdul Bari Swapon, convener of Gangachara Upazila; members Sujon Ahmed, Mahfuzar Rahman, and Khondokar Milon Al Mamun; and youth leader Mamun Khan.

At the conclusion of the discussion, several key programmes were approved for implementation, which are expected to play an effective role in promoting gender equality and eliminating discrimination in the future.
