NBR logs record Tk90,825cr revenue in First Quarter of FY2025–26

Business Desk :

The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has achieved its highest-ever first-quarter revenue collection, raking in Tk90,825 crore during July–September of the 2025–26 fiscal year.

According to official data, the figure represents a strong 20.21 percent year-on-year growth, up from Tk75,554 crore collected during the same period last year.

The NBR collected Tk15,270 crore more this quarter than in the corresponding period of FY2024–25, reflecting a steady rise in tax compliance and enforcement.

Among the three key segments, domestic value-added tax (VAT) contributed the most with Tk34,819 crore a jump of nearly 30 percent from last year’s Tk26,838 crore.

Income and travel taxes brought in Tk28,478 crore, marking an 18 percent increase, while customs revenue from import and export activities rose 11.7 percent to Tk27,528 crore.

Officials attributed the strong performance to expanded tax coverage, improved compliance, and effective anti-evasion drives. The NBR also credited its officials for their “dedicated efforts” in boosting revenue mobilisation despite global economic challenges.

This record collection, the NBR said, reflects growing economic activity and the success of ongoing reforms aimed at building a more transparent and efficient tax administration.
