JU student killed in road accident

Jahangirnagar University (JU) student was killed after being hit by a speeding truck on the Meherpur-Sholomari road in Fatehpur area on Wednesday morning.
The deceased was identified as Farhana Waheda Omi, a fourth-year student of the English Department, 50th batch, at Jahangirnagar University. She was a resident of Poyadapara area in Meherpur town.

The accident occurred around 9:30am when Farhana and her husband Raihanul Islam were heading towards their in-laws’ house in Ramdaspur on a motorcycle. While overtaking a truck near the Fatehpur brick kiln, the motorcycle reportedly lost control and skidded into a pile of bricks.

Confirming the matter, Jahangir Selim, Officer-in-Charge (Operation) of Meherpur Sadar Police Station said, “Police have recovered the body from the scene.”
“The family has declined a post-mortem, and the body will be handed over upon written request,” he added.
The tragic accident has cast a pall of grief over the Jahangirnagar University community.
