World Children’s Day and Child Rights Week celebrated

Under the theme, “Listen to the child today, work for the child”, World Children’s Day and Child Rights Week were celebrated with due respect in Gangachhara.

On Thursday morning, the programme was organised at the Gangachhara Upazila premises by the Upazila administration and the Office of the Women Affairs Officer, in collaboration with the World Vision Bangladesh, Gangachhara Area Programme.

The event included an inauguration, a rally, and a discussion session. The chief guest, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mahmud Hasan Mridha, said, “Today’s children are the future of tomorrow.

Through ensuring their overall development, protecting their rights, and providing proper guidance, we can nurture an enlightened generation.

It is our collective responsibility to safeguard children and ensure their holistic development, creativity, and humanitarian growth for the progress of the nation.”

Among others present were Upazila Social Services Officer MosaddequrRahman, Women Affairs Officer MousumiAkter, Youth Development Officer Mahmudur Rahman, Cooperative Officer AbtabuzamanChoyon, World Vision Bangladesh Gangachhara Area Programme Manager LiobertChisim, Sponsorship and Child Protection Officer Apollo Das, Programme Officers Christina Krush, FarukHossain, IshiBardoi, Joni Nakorek, along with journalists, local representatives, religious leaders, child and youth representatives, teachers, NGO representatives, and distinguished members of the community.

During the event, speakers emphasised the importance of children’s physical and mental health, child protection, education, child rights, and the prevention of child marriage and child labour.

They called for the joint efforts of parents, teachers, private organisations, the administration, and the government to nurture children’s talents and abilities.
