NBR offers duty-free import facility for partial exporters

Staff Reporter :

The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has introduced a new facility that will allow partial exporters to import raw materials without paying duties, provided they submit a bank guarantee.

The decision, announced in a press release on Monday, is intended to encourage export growth.

Currently, only exporters with bonded warehouse licenses are entitled to duty-free import of raw materials used in producing export-oriented goods.

However, many partial exporters — those who cater to both local and foreign markets — remain outside this system due to strict eligibility requirements.

To bridge that gap, the NBR has now permitted these businesses to avail the same benefit against a bank guarantee equivalent to the customs duty assessed on the imported items.

The measure is designed to ease financial pressure on smaller exporters while ensuring government revenue is safeguarded.

The revenue authority expects that this move will help more enterprises expand their production, diversify export items, and strengthen Bangladesh’s competitiveness in international markets.
