Sylhet Battalion (48-BGB) has conducted multiple anti-smuggling operations in various areas along the border of Sylhet. One person was arrested with a large amount of Indian goods in the operations. During this, a boat and two trucks that were illegally extracting sand were seized. The estimated value of the goods seized in the operation is 1 crore 43 lakh taka.
BGB conducted operations in various areas along the border on Friday and Saturday (September 26 and 27).
The BGB said that on Friday and Saturday, a BOP conducted a smuggling operation in the border areas of Sylhet, Sonarhat, Utma, Sreepur, Sangram, Bichnakandi, Banglabazar, Sonalichela and arrested a suspect and a boat illegally transporting sand for transporting a large quantity of Indian cumin, fuchka, Kit Kat chocolate, sugar, alcohol, illegal beer and liquor.
In addition, a special patrol team of the battalion headquarters conducted an operation in the Khagail area of Companiganj upazila and seized 2 trucks used for transporting smuggled goods, including a large quantity of Indian cumin, fuchka, and Oreo biscuits, with the help of the army. The estimated Caesar value of the goods seized in the operation is 1 crore 43 lakh taka.
The commander of 48 BGB said, ‘On the instructions of the higher headquarters, the BGB’s operational activities and intelligence activities are continuing to maintain security at the border, prevent smuggling and drug trafficking. In continuation of this, these goods have been seized. The arrested accused along with Indian narcotics have been handed over to Gowainghat Police Station for legal action. Necessary legal action is in process regarding other goods.’
