The 10-man Bashundhara Kings retained the title of the Challenge Cup after defeating Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited 4-1 in their curtain-raiser tournament of the domestic football meet of the country at Martyred Dhirendranath Dutta Stadium in Cumilla on Friday.
Last year Bashundhara Kings clinched the trophy of the Challenge Cup beating Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club 3-1 at Bashundhara Kings Arena in the capital.
Bashundhara’s Brazilian recruit Dorielton scored twice and his compatriot Raphael Augusto netted one goal and their Nigerian colleague Emmanuel Sunday scored one goal.
On the other hand, Mohammedan’s Uzbek recruit Mazaffar Muzaffarav pulled off one.
Dorielton of Bashundhara Kings put his team ahead from a penalty kick in the seventh minute of the match.
After six minutes, Mohammedan’s Uzbek recruit Muzaffarav equalized the margin from a penalty shot.
Sohel Rana of Bashundhara Kings was showed his first yellow card before the lemon-break.
Minhajul of Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club was roughly charged by Sohel Rana in the 63rd minute of the clash, Thus, Sohel Rana was showed yellow card. Two yellow cards were converted a red card. So, Sohel Rana was showed red card and he left the ground. Thus, Bashundhara Kings became 10-man army.
After that, Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited failed to make any notable attack.
In the 66th minute of the match, Dorielton’s header was thwarted by Mohammedan goalie Sujon Hossain but the ball came to Raphael Augusto and Raphael made no mistake to put the ball into the blank net.
Emmanuel Sunday of Bashundhara Kings got the ball on his way from a through pass of his teammate Dorielton and Emmanuel Sunday increased the tally into 3-1 in the 74th minute of the game.
The supporters of Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited threw smoke flair at the ground in the 80th minute of the match. Thus, the game was stopped for some time.
Later, Dorielton made it 4-1 in the 86th minute of the game.
Raphael Augusto of Bashundhara Kings was adjudged the Player of the Final for his outstanding performance.
