The Amar Ekushey Book Fair, traditionally held every February, may be advanced this time to December or January as the Bangla Academy prepares to shift the schedule.
Publishers have also voiced support for bringing the fair forward, with some proposing that it be shortened to 15 days instead of its usual month-long run. Those involved in the event say preparations for the national election in February mean law enforcers will not be able to provide extra security during that month. For this reason, all parties have agreed to hold the fair earlier, reports bdnews24.com.
Publishers fear that hosting the fair after February would diminish its “festive atmosphere”. Weather conditions would also be less favourable for the event, while the political atmosphere surrounding the elections remains uncertain.
