After the ending of the match against Sri Lanka prolific batter Jaker Ali Anik said, ” We shall play to win next match.”
Bangladesh tasted a bitter six-wicket defeat to Sri Lanka in their second Group-B match of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Asia Cup at Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Saturday night. Jaker Ali Anik and Shamim Hossain contributed 86 runs for the unbroken sixth wicket partnership.
Thus, Bangladesh posted a fighting total of 139 for the loss of five wickets in the stipulated 20 overs. Jaker Ali notched up 34-ball 41(not out), while Shamim Hossain hit an unbeaten 42 off 34 balls.
Jaker said, ” We don’t leave our hope. We arrived in the field to play against Sri Lanka to win the match. We shall play next match with a positive approach in the next match. We are bound to win the next match. We have not come here to play matches here. We have arrived here to clinch the ACC Asia Cup title. I don’t think our hope is come to an end as we lost one match. We obviously play next match for victory.”
” I think if our batting unit shone from the very beginning and if we were attentive from our starting of the batting, We could get a good result. Not only Shamim and I, all of us had to bat well. I mean that I want to say batting unit means everybody including Shamim and I. We failed to play a good cricket. Thus, we lost to Sri Lanka,” he added.
Bangladesh will take on Afghanistan in their third and last Group-B match of the Asia Cup at the same venue. Bangladesh have to win against Afghanistan, if they want to keep their hope alive to play in the ‘Super Four’ match. The Tigers have to earn a big margin win against Afghanistan and they have to achieve a better run rate after defeating Afghanistan to reach the next phase.
It may be mentioned that Bangladesh made an auspicious start in their Asia Cup campaign after thrashing Hong Kong by seven wickets in their first Group-B match at the same venue on September 11.
