Tomato cultivation success in Kamalganj

Young farmer Abdul Mannan has made a name for himself by cultivating tomatoes using the modern mulching method in Kamalganj upazila of Moulvibazar district. He has now earned up to Tk 3.5 million by cultivating tomatoes in advance on 12.5 bighas of land.

He is hopeful of profit. Seeing his success, several other local farmers have started cultivating tomatoes in the same way.

In the mulching method, the land is covered with a special type of polythene. In this, weeds do not grow in the land, water is not wasted and fertilizer is not wasted.

As a result, the fertility of the land The trees produce for a longer period and the cost is relatively low. Abdul Mannan said that this year his production cost will be around 22-25 lakh taka. Currently, tomatoes are being sold in the market at 100-120 taka per kg. If everything goes well, he will have 50-60 lakh taka worth of tomatoes.

There is a possibility of sale.
Last year, he earned 25-26 lakh taka after expenses by cultivating tomatoes on 10 bighas of land. In continuation of that success, this year he is cultivating on a larger scale using the mulching method. As a result, he is happy with this method.

Farmers’ interest is also increasing day by day.
Kamalganj Upazila Agriculture Officer Jayonta Kumar Roy said, “The mulching method increases the disease resistance of tomatoes and the yield is good even in the summer season. By providing regular advice and necessary support to the farmers, We are going.’

Currently, tomatoes are being cultivated using the mulching method on about 60 hectares of land in Kamalganj Upazila, which is playing an important role in the economic development of local farmers.
