Business Report :
The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) has reduced the retail price of LPG by Tk 3 per 12-kg cylinder, fixing it at Tk 1,270 for September. The regulator also cut the price of auto-gas to Tk 58.15 per litre, down by Tk 0.13 from last month, in line with global market trends.
With this, LPG prices have been reduced for the fifth consecutive month since May 2025.
Announcing the latest adjustment on Tuesday at a press briefing at the BERC office in the IEB building in the capital, Chairman Jalal Ahmed said the decision was made considering Saudi Aramco’s contract prices for September, as well as fluctuations in foreign exchange rates and changes in VAT.
For the month, the Saudi Aramco CP has been set at USD 520 per tonne for propane and USD 490 per tonne for butane. Based on a 35:65 propane-butane mix, BERC calculated the average price at USD 500.50 per tonne. Since April 2021, BERC has been fixing LPG prices for private operators at the beginning of every month. Consumers can purchase cylinders in various sizes ranging from 5.5 kg to 45 kg at proportionately adjusted rates.
The price of LPG supplied through reticulated or centralised systems has also been revised downward to Tk 226.90 per cubic metre from Tk 227.40 in August. The price of state-owned LP Gas Company’s 12.5-kg cylinder, however, remains unchanged at Tk 825.
Sources said that currently 27 operators are active in the LPG market, although licences were issued to about 58 companies. Of these, 26 import nearly 1.10 million tonnes of LPG annually-meeting around 98 per cent of the country’s demand-while seven work as satellite operators. An estimated 35 million LPG cylinders are in circulation across the country. The sector also relies on a logistics network of about 200 road tankers, 5,000 trucks, and 21 cargo vessels to maintain supply nationwide.
