‘Only genuine fishermen to get lease of water -bodies’

Adviser of Fisheries and Livestock Ministry, Farida Akhter on Sunday, Stressed on giving lease of all water bodies to the genuine fishermen rather than others.

“Only the fishermen will get a lease of the water bodies, others are not,” she said while exchanging views with the registered fishermen of haor areas including Mithamoin, Itna and Astogram haor upazilas of Kishoreganj.

In this connection, the adviser revealed that more culverts would have to be constructed on ‘all weather roads’ for increasing reproduction of fish in haor areas and ensuing smooth breeding flow of water.

“All natural changes are not the creation of nature, some are also manmade,” she said adding, “Without the help of the fishermen, only the police and other officials couldn’t stop the use of illegal current net in the country”.

Adviser Farida Akhter also said that, Indigenous fish species must be protected by identified water – bodies across the country. There is different species of fish in different water boding should be identified and indigenous fish species should be conserved and increased.
