Hamidul Haque Mohon, veteran politician, freedom fighter, and founding president of the Tangail District BNP, has passed away. He was laid to rest with deep respect and love from party leaders, activists, and people from all walks of life.
His funeral prayer (Janazah) was held on Tuesday after Zuhr prayers at the Bindubasini Government Boys’ High School ground. Notable political figures including Bangabir Abdul Kader Siddique, BNP Vice Chairman Advocate Abdus Salam Pintu, Central BNP Publicity Secretary Sultan Salahuddin Tuku, BNP Chairperson’s Advisor Lutfor Rahman Khan Azad, Executive Committee Member Lutfor Rahman Matin, District BNP President Hasanuzzamil Shahin, District Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Ahsan Habib Masud, and BNP General Secretary Advocate Farhad Iqbal attended the funeral along with people from various political, social, and cultural backgrounds.
Prior to the burial, the administration honored him with a guard of honor. He was later buried at the Tangail Central Graveyard. Mohon passed away on Monday evening due to cardiac arrest while returning from an election campaign meeting where he had just delivered a speech. He was 79 years old at the time of his death. A close associate of Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhashani, Hamidul Haque Mohon remained active in politics throughout his life. He was seeking BNP nomination from the Tangail-6 (Nagarpur-Delduar) constituency in the upcoming national parliamentary elections and was actively campaigning in the area.
He leaves behind his wife, two sons, three daughters, and a large number of admirers. In addition to being the founding president of the Tangail District BNP, he also served as the President of Tangail Citizens’ Rights Protection Committee, Chief Advisor to the Tangail Journalists’ Union, and Advisor to the Tangail Cultural Reformation Forum. He was also the brother-in-law of Language Movement hero Abdul Matin.
