Secretary of the Ministry of Labour and Employment and President of Consumers Association of Bangladesh (CAB) AHM. Shafiquzzaman visited schools for tea garden children in Sylhet and exchanged views with women tea workers.
On Saturday at 5 pm, he inspected the activities of the Education Support Center for Tea Workers run by the Ethnic Community Development Organization (ECDO) at Daldoli Tea Garden in Sylhet Sadar Upazila.
After that, he exchanged views with representatives of the Cha-Shramik Nari Mancha, an organization formed by women tea workers.
In the exchange meeting held under the chairmanship of Laxmikanta Singh, Executive Director of the Ethnic Community Development Organization (ECDO), the women tea workers expressed their sorrows and plight.
They demanded an increase in their wages, a hospital in the garden for the treatment of tea workers, and the establishment of a government school inside the tea garden for the education of tea workers’ children.
Earlier, Secretary of the Ministry of Labour and Employment A. H. M. Shafiquzzaman spoke to the students of the Education Support Center run for tea workers’ children on various issues. He asked and answered various questions from the students.
And conducted various intellectual exercises. CAB Vice President SM Nazer Hossain, CAB Executive Director Ahmed Ekramurlah, President of Daldali Tea Garden School Management Committee Advocate A. H. M. Zafar Chowdhury, Tukerbazar Union Parishad Member Abul Kashem Chowdhury, President of Cha Sramik Nari Mancha Sumi Nayek, President of Daldali Tea Garden Panchayat Committee Mintu Das, addressed the meeting as special guests.
M, Shafiquzzaman told reporters, although the country has progressed a lot, there has been no improvement for tea workers. However, there has been improvement in one area.
That is, earlier they could not speak about their rights, but now they can. Now at least they can speak openly about their demands. There are many challenges in implementing their demands.
