11 Rohingyas detained by BGB in Bhurungamari

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has detained 11 Rohingyas during push-in
into Bangladesh through the Khutamara border (near to Sonahat land port) of
Baladia union in Bhurungamari upazila of Kurigram. They were detained at
around 6 am on Friday, (October 17) and handed over to the local thana
police station. Bhurungamari Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Al Helal
Mahmud confirmed the matter.
The detainees are Myanmar national Rabiul Alam (20), Ismail Hossain's wife
Amena Begum (28), son Aziz (15), Mohammad Abu (7), daughters Shafa (6),
Rifa (9), Nur Alam's wife Rezia (21), and daughter Nur Shahida (2). Imam
Hossain (48), son of the deceased Altaf Hossain, Shafiullah (18), son of
Abdul Malek, and Mohammad Nabi Hossain (15), son of Mohammad Alam.
At the time of arrest, they said they were residents of Kalatali village in Cox's
Bazar, but during interrogation, they admitted to being citizens of Myanmar.
According to BGB, police, and local sources, at around 6 am on Friday, the
Indian Border Security Force (BSF) sent the 1011 pillar of the Khutamara
border in Baldia union of Bhurungamari upazila to Bangladesh. Later, they
started roaming in the Sonahat Amtali area on the Sonahat land port-
Kachakata road.

At that time, a patrol team of the Sonahat BGB camp
arrested them. The detainees said that they illegally crossed the Comilla
border into the Indian state of Assam a year ago in search of work.
Bhurungamari Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Al Helal Mahmud
confirmed the arrest of the Myanmar nationals and said that their real
information is being verified. Legal action will be taken in this regard.
Lieutenant Colonel Mahbub Ul Haque, Commander of Kurigram-22 BGB
Battalion, confirmed the truth of the incident and said that the detainees have
been handed over to Bhurungamari Police Station. When the detailed
addresses of the detained citizens were confirmed, they said that they are
Rohingya citizens (citizens of Myanmar). Further legal and administrative
activities of the said citizens are ongoing.
