Chatmohar Correspondent :
The removal of illegal bunds obstructing the flow of water in the beels of Chatmohar, Pabna, continues. Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) and Executive Magistrate Musa Naser Chowdhury recently removed two more bunds.
UNO Musa Naser Chowdhury conducted a drive from the afternoon to evening of Monday to remove these two bunds, which had been illegally erected in Kata Gang and Sthal villages of Handial Union. These bunds had been installed by an identified group without legal permission, disrupting Rabi season cultivation and blocking the natural flow of water, affecting indigenous fish species and local farmers in the Chalanbil area.
Earlier, the UNO had also removed bunds in Chawaldah Beel and Kata Gang, but they were repeatedly reconstructed. Senior Upazila Fisheries Officer Md. Abdul Matin explained that attempts were being made to catch fish by blocking water flow in Kata Ganga and surrounding land areas using floating dams made of bamboo and bamboo mats.
During the campaign, the Upazila Administration and the Fisheries Department successfully removed the two dams, restoring the natural water flow. Senior Upazila Fisheries Officer Md. Abdul Matin, Handial Union Parishad Administrator Md. Sohel Rana, Chatmohar Thana Police, and Ansar members were present during the operation.
UNO Musa Naser Chowdhury stated that the campaign would continue to protect the environment, indigenous fish species, and biodiversity, while preventing ecological degradation.
