Janata Bank manager missing with Tk 1.3cr

Ishwardi (Pabna) Correspondent :

Khaled Saifullah, manager of Janata Bank’s Pakshi branch, has gone missing along with Tk 1.3 crore in Ishwardi. He has not been traced since leaving the bank with the cash on Sunday afternoon.

The incident caused alarm among bank officials and local authorities. A general diary (GD) was filed at Ishwardi Police Station last night by Janata Bank Ishwardi Corporate Branch Assistant General Manager Md. Mohsanatul Haque.

According to the GD, Khaled Saifullah visited the Ishwardi Corporate Branch around 11:30 am on Sunday to collect cash for remittance. He had informed the branch over the phone on Saturday about the requirement of Tk 1.3 crore. When the branch said only Tk 60-70 lakh could be provided due to a cash shortage, he refused. The next day, at 9:45 am, he called again, requesting Tk 70-75 lakh.

Assistant General Manager Md. Mohsanatul Haque said that at 11:15 am, Khaled Saifullah withdrew Tk 30 million from Janata Bank’s Dashuria Bazar branch. He then came to the Ishwardi Corporate Branch and received another Tk 1 crore in cash from the Pakshi branch at 11:35 am, accompanied by Ansar member Mahbub.

After completing the necessary vouchers and signing the register, Khaled Saifullah and Mahbub left for Pakshi branch in a private car at 11:45 am, carrying Tk 1.3 crore. The car was driven by Md. Ismail Hossain. Upon reaching the branch and instructing them to deposit the money, Khaled Saifullah’s mobile phone was found switched off.

Later, at around 3:30 pm, after contacting the assistant manager of the Pakshi branch, it was discovered that Khaled Saifullah had still not arrived. Alarmed, the bank officials contacted the local police station, and following their advice, a GD was filed at Ishwardi Police Station.
Shahinur Rahman, manager of Janata Bank’s Dashuria branch, confirmed: “At 11:15 am, Pakshi branch manager Khaled Saifullah withdrew Tk 30 million from our branch.

The transaction was completed according to the bank’s rules.”
Dilruba Begum, wife of the missing manager, said, “As usual, he left home in the morning to go to the bank. In the afternoon, officials from the Ishwardi Corporate Branch informed us of his disappearance. His mobile phone has been switched off since then. We do not know whether he went voluntarily or was kidnapped.”

Ishwardi Police Station Officer-in-Charge ASM Abdun Noor said, “We learned about the cash withdrawal from the bank authorities. A GD has been filed, and the matter will be investigated. Appropriate legal action will be taken.”
