China-Bangladesh Music Competition in Dhaka

The vibrant second edition of the China-Bangladesh Music Competition was held recently in Dhaka. This unique event featured Bengali songs performed by Chinese participants and Chinese songs performed by non-Chinese (Bangladeshi) participants, aiming to build a cultural bridge between the two nations, said a press release.
The day-long grand competition took place at the BCS Administration Academy Auditorium, with a total of 17 contestants participating in the final round.

In the first half of the day, the musical contest for the titles took place. The remaining participants were awarded special prizes. The competition was organised in two stages. In the final, 8 contestants competed in the Chinese group and 9 contestants in the Bangladeshi group. According to the organizers, the aim of this competition is to provide a platform for developing the talents of Chinese song enthusiasts in both countries and to foster mutual understanding, thereby strengthening China-Bangladesh friendship through music.

Another important goal is to help Bangladeshi learners of the Chinese language expand their learning through songs and promote songs through learning. The event was sponsored by the Center for Language Education and Cooperation of China’s Ministry of Education, guided by the Embassy of China in Bangladesh, and organised by Shanto-Mariam-Honghe Confucius Classroom.
It was co-hosted by the Confucius Institutes at the University of Dhaka and North South University, the Chinese Enterprises Association in Bangladesh, and the Bangladesh Overseas Chinese Federation.
The welcome speech was delivered by Professor Dr Md Shah-E-Alam, Vice-Chancellor of Shanto-Mariam University of Creative Technology, while the congratulatory remarks were given by Dr Molla Mahmud Hasan, Deputy Director of the BCS Administration Academy.
The event was attended by Professor Dr Md Abdur Rab, Vice-Chancellor of IUBAT, and Dr Par Moshiyur Rahman, Registrar of Shanto-Mariam University, along with representatives from the Chinese Embassy, journalists from Chinese and Bangladeshi media, faculty and student representatives from Bangladesh’s three Confucius Institutes, Chinese language learners from the BCS Administration Academy, and other distinguished guests.
Lastly, the programme concluded with a delightful group performance by the contestants, followed by a vote of thanks.
