Police have arrested three members of a gang involved in bKash fraud in Amtali upazila of Barguna.
The arrested are Md. Sujan (25), son of Nasir Uddin Howlader from the Machuakhali area of Kalapara upazila in Patuakhali; Abdur Rahman (25), son of Delwar Munshi from the Chalabanga area of Amtali upazila in Barguna; and his wife, Sumi (22).
They were sent to Barguna District Jail on Monday night following their arrest.
The operation was conducted jointly by the Cyber Crime Investigation Team of the district police and the Detective Branch (DB). The arrests were made after a month-long intensive surveillance and identification process using information technology.
The media wing of Barguna District Police confirmed the matter to journalists on Monday afternoon.
Earlier, the trio was apprehended from the North Tiakhali area of Amtali upazila on Sunday night.
According to police sources, the fraudsters had been deceiving people across different areas of Barguna by posing as relatives and conducting scams via bKash transactions.
They particularly targeted families of expatriates living abroad, often tricking victims by claiming that a relative was seriously ill or by fabricating urgent family events.
Following a month-long investigation, police successfully identified the members of the gang and conducted a raid in North Tiakhali, leading to their arrest.
During the operation, five mobile phones used in the fraudulent activities were seized.
Amtali Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Dewan Jaglul Hasan said that a victim named Rakibul Khan had lodged a case at the police station.
All three detainees are active members of an inter-district fraud syndicate, and multiple fraud cases have been filed against them in various districts, including Barguna.
