Bagerhat farmer killed in rival clash

A farmer named Kalam Khan (48) was killed in an attack by his opponents in Morelganj under Bagerhat district due to a dispute over theft.
The farmer and his brother were attacked on Saturday at a place called Chhoto Jamua in the Upazila.

Later, they were rescued and taken to Morelganj Upazila Hospital, where the physician on duty declared farmer Kalam Khan dead.
As his condition was critical, the deceased’s brother Lutfar Khan was shifted to Khulna Medical College Hospital for better treatment.

The body of the deceased was recovered and sent to Bagerhat 250-bed Sadar Hospital for autopsy. The deceased Kalam Khan is the son of one Wazed Ali Khan alias Kalu Khan of Depuar Par village in Chingrakhali Union under Morelganj Upazila.

Kalam Khan’s neighbor and Chingrakhali Union BNP General Secretary Mamun Khan said that there was a dispute between Sohel Khan, who is from the same clan, and the deceased Kalam Khan’s family over betel nut theft.

This led to a verbal altercation between the two sides last night. Sohel Khan and his men beat up Kalam Khan and his elder brother Lutfar Khan. Kalam Khan died on the spot. Lutfar Khan was admitted to Khulna Medical College Hospital. The main accused Sohel Khan is a resident of the area.
Md. Matlubur Rahman, Officer-in-charge (OC), Morrelganj Police Station told, we visited the place of occurrence after receiving the information. The area is calm. The body of the deceased was sent to Bagerharhat morgue for autopsy and preparations are underway to file a case. The police have already started an operation to arrest the accused
