Opener Shadman Islam struck his maiden T20 century as Dhaka Metro thrashed Barishal Division by 96 runs for their third victory in the NCL T20 tournament on Saturday at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.
Shadman, predominantly, known as Test batter, smashed 61 ball-101 with 11 fours and four sixes to guide Metro to a respectable 197-6, a total that was enough to keep Barishal win-less in the tournament still. Barishal eventually were wrapped up for 101 in 17.5 overs after failing to raise a minimum prospect of winning the game.
Shadman and his opening partner Mahfijul Islam Robin tormented Barishal bowlers with sustained aggression after they were sent to bat first.
They scored 10 runs plus per over consistently till the 17th over and added 177 runs after which Iftakhar Hossain Ifti broke through with the wicket of Robin who clubbed 79 off 49, an innings laced with nine fours and two sixes.
Robin’s dismissal slowed Metro down to some extent as the middle order batter couldn’t come all guns blazing. Shadman, however, was dismissed in the last over by Ifti just after bringing up his maiden century.
Ifti took four wickets to deny Metro going past 200-run mark.
But that couldn’t lift the mood of Barishal batters as they crumbled under the pressure of huge target.
Opener Azmir Ahmed made team-best 26 for Barishal while the second best was Zahiduzzaman’s 18.
Maruf Mridha claimed 3-15 in three overs to wreck havoc on Barishal batting line up and was ably supported by Abu Haider Rnoy and Rakibul Hasan’s two-wicket haul.
The third victory propelled Metro to the third spot in the point table.
