Following the Bijoya Dashami rituals, idol immersion has begun at Patenga Beach in Chattogram. The immersions started one by one on Thursday, from 2 pm.
However, due to inclement weather, the pace of immersion has slowed slightly. Devotees have gathered at Patenga Beach to bid farewell to Goddess Durga, offering oil, vermilion, paan, and sweets.
With participation from people of various backgrounds and professions, the immersion ceremony has attracted thousands of attendees.
Since the morning, worshippers have been arriving at Patenga Beach with truckloads of idols from different puja mandaps across the Chattogram metropolis, accompanied by the beating of drums. The idol immersion then commenced.
Patenga Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Kazi Md. Sultan Ahsan Uddin told Banglanews that Hindus are immersing the idols peacefully in the sea.
Additional police personnel have been deployed on the beach and surrounding areas to ensure the smooth conduct of the immersion.
This year, Durga Puja is being celebrated in 292 puja mandaps, including JM Sen Hall, the main puja mandap of Chattogram city, and across 16 police station areas, covering private and ghat pujas
