Ekushey Book Fair after national election

Staff Reporter :

Bangla Academy has postponed its earlier decision to hold the Ekushey Book Fair before the national election, following a proposal from the Ministry of Home Affairs.

In a press release on Sunday, the institution announced the matter, adding that a new date will later be fixed in consultation with publishers and other stakeholders.

Professor Mohammad Azam, Director General of Bangla Academy, told the media: “It is not possible to hold the book fair before the election. We will finalize and announce a new date.”

On September 21, at a law-and-order-related meeting held at the Ministry of Home Affairs, it was decided that “the Amar Ekushey Book Fair must be organized after the upcoming national election.”

That decision was conveyed to Bangla Academy through the Ministry of Cultural Affairs in the form of a proposal. Based on that proposal, Bangla Academy declared the previously scheduled date for the fair as “postponed.”

It may be mentioned that earlier, on September 18, in a meeting with the Book Publishers and Sellers Association and other stakeholders, the date of the fair had been set from December 17, 2025, to January 17, 2026.
