Badhon claps back at cyberbullies: ‘Clear roads, Nagin Badhon enters’

Sheikh Arif Bulbon :

Move over, the snake charmers, there’s a new Nagin in the city, and she’s not hissing… she’s laughing. Bangladesh’s boldest, brashest and most unapologetically outspoken actress, Azmeri Haque Badhon, has just been rebranded by the internet – and honey, she loves it.

In a fiery, tongue-in-cheek Facebook post that’s already gone viral, Badhon announced her latest ‘title’ bestowed upon her by keyboard warriors: ‘Nagin.’ Yes, read that right. Not ‘star,’ not ‘queen,’ not even ‘controversy magnet’ – now, it’s Nagin. And Badhon? She’s rolling out the red carpet for it.

“I am having the best time of my life (I’ll tell you all the tea later). The vocabulary for abusing me has been upgraded. The new word? ‘Nagin’!”
“Everyone clear the roads – Nagin Ajmeri Haque has come to the city.” This isn’t Badhon’s first rodeo with online trolls – far from it.

The actress, who’s been front and centre during the student movement, using her platform to speak truth to power, says cyberbullying has become a twisted ‘norm’ for her, she’s been called everything under the sun – but ‘Nagin’? That’s a first.

“People have thrown every name at me… but this one? Fresh and creative. I actually like it,” she quipped, turning venom into victory with the flick of a hashtag.

And let’s not forget – this is the same woman who, when accused of being a RAW agent last March, responded with: “I’ve become a ‘RAW’ agent again. What a great journey!” Badhon didn’t stop there.

In her latest post, she took a quiet but cutting swipe at those closest to her – hinting that some of the nastiest attacks are coming from within the industry.

“Some close acquaintances and colleagues have personally targeted me. But hey – you never really know what kind of behaviour someone’s hiding behind that smile.”

As Bangladesh’s entertainment industry continues to grapple with cancel culture, gossip grenades and social media pile-ons, Badhon is rewriting the script – refusing to be shamed, silenced or sidelined. Instead, she’s owning the narrative, flipping the insults, and serving main-character energy with a side of sarcasm.

So, whether you call her activist, actress, agitator… or now, Nagin – one thing’s clear: Azmeri Haque Badhon doesn’t just survive the drama. She dances in it.
