BSS, Dhaka:
Bashundhara Kings will take on Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Football champions Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited as the country’s domestic football season is set to kick-off today with the 2nd edition of the Challenge Cup.
The one-match series will be held at Martyr Dhirendranath Datta Stadium in Cumilla, at 2:30pm.
The Challenge Cup is contested between the previous season’s Bangladesh Premier League champions and the Federation Cup Football champions. Last season, Mohammedan made history by lifting their maiden Bangladesh Premier League title, while Bashundhara Kings clinched the Federation Cup.
Bashundhara Kings will be aiming to maintain their supremacy in Friday’s clash, while the traditional Motijheel based outfit, Mohammedan, will look to take revenge. Last year, the two teams faced each other at the Kings Arena in the capital, where the Kings added another achievement to their history by winning a dramatic and exciting match by a 3-1 and clinch the title.
Earlier, the captains of both teams expressed high hopes of winning the trophy.
Bashundhara Kings Captain Tapu Barman said they want to win the trophy again and are working according to the coach’s instructions.
Mohammedan’s new Captain, Mehedi Hasan Mithu, firmly stated that although they lost the title last time, they are now upbeat and determined to reclaim it.
The experienced defender admitted that the match would be a tough one, but they will take to the field with the goal of winning the title.
