The Department of Environment has fined ACI Salt Tk 200,000 on charges of environmental pollution in Rupganj, Narayanganj.
The fine was imposed and collected on Thursday (September 18) during a drive led by Executive Magistrate and Rupganj Upazila Senior Assistant Commissioner (Land), Mr. Md. Tarikul Alam.
The operation was carried out with the participation of Rupganj police and officials from the Narayanganj District Office of the Department of Environment.
Inspector Titu Barua of the Department of Environment conducted the required prosecution during the raid.
Deputy Director of the Department of Environment, Narayanganj District Office, A.H.M. Rased, said that during the drive, it was found that ACI Salt Limited, located in the Murapara area, was violating Section 7(3) of the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2021.
As the activities were deemed harmful to the environment, legal action was taken against the company under Section 15(2) of the Bangladesh Environment Conservation Act, 1995. The company was immediately fined Tk 200,000, which was collected on the spot.
He further stated that such drives against polluting industries would continue. Environmental pollution has long been a major problem in the industrial zones of Narayanganj, negatively impacting both the local environment and public health.
