The Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA) has secured a landmark investment as Chinese company KMK Industrial Limited prepares to set up an airplane amenity bag and kit production facility at the BEPZA Economic Zone.

The US$18.6 million venture will employ over 1,231 workers, marking a new chapter in industrial diversification.

The agreement was recently signed between Md. Ashraful Kabir, Member (Investment Promotion) of BEPZA, and Wu Yuxiang, Chairman of KMK Industrial Limited, in the presence of BEPZA Executive Chairman Major General Abul Kalam Mohammad Ziaur Rahman, BSP, ndc, psc.

Senior BEPZA officials and representatives from the Chinese firm also attended the ceremony, says a press release.

Under the project, KMK Industrial Limited will initially manufacture airplane amenity bags, with plans to gradually expand into a wider range of products including socks, garments and accessories, cosmetics, and selected electronics such as headphones and USB cables.

This investment introduces a unique and diversified product line to BEPZA’s industrial portfolio, strengthening its role as a hub for export-oriented industries.

Speaking on the occasion, Major General Ziaur Rahman welcomed KMK Industrial Limited to the BEPZA Economic Zone and assured full institutional support to ensure smooth operations.

“This project represents a milestone in our continuous effort to diversify export-oriented industries,” he said. “We strongly encourage investors to build in-house production capacity and source raw materials locally, thereby reinforcing both industrial growth and the national economy.”

The signing ceremony was attended by key BEPZA officials including Abdullah Al Mamun, Member (Engineering); ANM Foyzul Haque, Member (Finance); Md. Tanvir Hossain, Executive Director (Investment Promotion); Md. Khorshid Alam, Executive Director (Enterprise Services); Md. Salahuddin, Executive Director (Administration); and A.S.M Anwar Parvez, Executive Director (Public Relations).
