BARI holds workshop

The Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI) held a workshop today on “Structuring Research for Impact: A Program-Based Approach.” The event took place at the institute’s seminar room and focused on accelerating agricultural research to meet the country’s future needs.

Dr. Mohammad Emdad Ullah Mian, the Honorable Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, attended as the chief guest. In his address, he highlighted a major challenge facing Bangladesh’s agriculture sector.

To address this, he emphasized the need to accelerate research and focus on practical, real-world solutions. Dr. Mian assured the audience that the government is providing full support for research and technological innovation to help the agricultural sector overcome future challenges, urging BARI scientists to initiate timely and need-based research for a better tomorrow.

BARI Director General, Dr. Md. Abdullah Yousuf Akhond, presented the keynote paper. His presentation detailed the potential impacts of climate change on crop production, the necessity of technological innovation, and various adaptation strategies.

The subsequent interactive discussion highlighted several key areas: the development and management of climate-resilient crop varieties, effective transfer of agricultural technologies, better coordination between research and extension services, and raising awareness among farmers and consumers.

The workshop was attended by heads of various BARI divisions, centers, and sections, as well as senior scientists.
