Six-lane highway to be built from Bhanga to Patuakhali’

Shipping, Labor and Employment Advisor Brigadier General (Retd.) M Sakhawat Hossain said that a six-lane highway will be constructed from Bhanga to Patuakhali.

The railway authorities have announced plans to work up to Barishal for now.

The construction of the railway line from riverine Barishal to Patuakhali will require a huge amount of money, so it may take two to three years to finalize the plan.

For this reason, he has given importance to the fact that the plan should be completed and approved during his term.

For this, some land acquisition has been completed, the rest will be done. He said that the DPP of the railway from Bhanga to Barishal has already been given.

The advisor said this at a meeting with journalists at the Circuit House on Saturday (September 13) afternoon after visiting various areas of Barishal divisional city.

Sakhawat Hossain expressed hope that the foundation stone of the construction of Mirganjbridge will be laid on the Arial Khan rivers of Babuganj and Muladi sides by December.

In addition, a water treatment plant will be launched by purifying the river-water for the residents of Barishal city by October, the advisor added.

Regarding the anger of the locals over Bhola gas, he said that the residents of Bhola themselves are still not getting gas.

However, the most unfortunate thing is that if someone is sick at night, it is difficult to bring them from Bhola to Barishal within a short time.

For this, entrepreneurs have been urged to provide two ambulances with the latest facilities.

The advisor said that BIWTA equipment will be used in the maintenance of canals in Barishal.

A project worth Tk 810 crore to prevent river erosion in Hijla-Mehendiganj is almost approved and work may start by winter.

Allocations have been made to develop Government Hatem Ali College and BM Collegeand more allocations will be made for them in the future.

Highlighting the importance of preserving old traditions, he said that old steamers are still operating on rivers in Europe, but they have been dismantled in Barishal river ways.

A new steamer ghat is being built in Barishal with the funding of the World Bank.

He also informed about the plan to bring paddle-powered steamers in mid-October.
