Notice to pay outstanding taxes in name of Andrew Kishore 5 years after his death

Andrew Kishore, a popular and legendary singer of Bengali music, died of blood cancer on July 6, 2020 at the age of 64. Five years after his death,
a notice for payment of outstanding taxes has been sent in his name.

The notice was sent by Assistant Tax Commissioner Kazi Rehman Sajid from the Office of the Deputy Tax Commissioner, Tax Circle 253, Tax Zone 12, Address 3/4 Purana Paltan, Medina Tower. It was sent to artiste Andrew Kishore’s address at Senpara Parbata House in Mirpur in the capital.

The notice states that Andrew Kishore’s simple interest in the 2005-2006 tax year was Tk22,423 and in the 2012-2013 tax year, the artiste owes Tk42,891 and its simple interest is Tk7,489. In total, it is stated that the artiste owes Tk72,803.

The notice was issued on September 1 of this year. The artiste has been requested to pay the arrears by September 11, otherwise he will be considered a defaulter taxpayer.

In addition, it was mentioned that fines, certificate cases, seizure of bank accounts, attachment of goods, disconnection of water, electricity, gas and other services, imprisonment and other measures will be taken against the late artist for non-payment of outstanding taxes.

When asked about this, Assistant Tax Commissioner of Tax Region 12, Tax Circle 253, Kazi Rehman Sajid said, “Everyone is equal in the eyes of the law. Since Andrew Kishore has tax arrears in his name, an official notice has been sent in his name.

Those who are enjoying his income or property, i.e. his family members, will now pay the arrears. Such a letter was also sent in the name of the late Nayakraj Razzak. His family members were not aware of the tax arrears. After knowing, they are paying Nayakraj’s arrears.”
