Direction Technology (Bangladesh) Co. Limited, a Chinese-owned company, is investing US$ 3 million to set up a manufacturing plant in the Chattogram Export Processing Zone (CEPZ) for producing Bluetooth headphones, wired headphones, and data cables.
The investment agreement with the Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA) was signed on Thursday, marking a step toward diversifying the country’s export basket beyond traditional apparel and textiles and strengthening Bangladesh’s foothold in technology-driven manufacturing. The project is expected to create employment for 478 Bangladeshi workers while adding new momentum to the nation’s growing electronics sector, says a press release.
The agreement was signed by Md. Ashraful Kabir, Member (Investment Promotion) of BEPZA, and Li Fanfan, Managing Director of Direction Technology (Bangladesh) Co. Limited, in the presence of Major General Abul Kalam Mohammad Ziaur Rahman, BSP, ndc, psc, Executive Chairman of BEPZA.
Welcoming Direction Technology as a new member of the BEPZA family, the Executive Chairman said that while Bangladesh is globally recognized for its apparel industry, BEPZA is equally committed to diversifying its export basket.
He noted that this investment introduces a new product line in electronics, reflecting BEPZA’s invitation to diversified industries. He also assured the company of BEPZA’s full support and urged it to maintain 100 per cent compliance in operations.
The signing ceremony was attended by senior BEPZA officials, including Abdullah Al Mamun, Member (Engineering); A N M Foyzul Haque, Member (Finance); Md. Tanvir Hossain, Executive Director (Investment Promotion); Md. Khorshid Alam, Executive Director (Enterprise Services); and A.S.M. Anwar Parvez, Executive Director (Public Relations), along with representatives of Direction Technology (Bangladesh) Co. Limited.
