Kiran Rao to work on Bangladeshi films

An event titled ‘Doc Producing South’ was held in Delhi, India from September 1 to 5. At this event for independent filmmakers, filmmakers and producers from different countries discussed various topics including documentary production budgets, distribution plans, and scriptwriting.

Producers and filmmakers from India, Nepal, Bhutan, France, the United States and various European countries participated in this event of the Doc Producing South Project. Arifur Rahman Arif, producer and director of Gupi Bagha Productions, represented Bangladesh.

Producer Arifur Rahman said that this lab will work with independent filmmakers from South Asia, where training and workshops will be organised to develop various topics including project proposals, budgets, and film distribution strategies for various documentary films.

Arifur Rahman said, “This is the South Asian Producing Lab Project. Producers and filmmakers from different countries have participated in this lab project. I received an invitation from Bangladesh.

Here, we talked to filmmakers from different countries about South Asian cinema. There was an opportunity to exchange various ideas. This project will pave the way for independent filmmakers from South Asian countries to move forward in the future.”

Kiran Rao, the director and producer of Bollywood’s ‘Dhobi Ghat’ and ‘Lapata Ladies’, participated in this event of Doc Producing South Lab Project. Arifur Rahman spoke to Kiran about various issues.

Kiran expressed her desire to work with Bangladeshi cinema. She said that if she gets the opportunity, she will come to Bangladesh and work for the development of independent cinema in this country.

Arifur said, “Kiran Rao has said that she will help independent filmmakers distribute their films in South Asian countries. We have talked about several other joint projects with him. I don’t want to reveal them now. I want to announce them officially when they are finalised. She has expressed interest in coming to Bangladesh. I hope it will be good for Bangladeshi cinema.”
