BD lose to Japan, waiting for Pakistan

Bangladesh National Hockey team lost to Japan National Hockey team by 1-6 goals in the 5th-6th place-deciding match of the Asia Cup Hockey at Rajgir in Bihar of India on Sunday. By virtue of yesterday’s defeat, Bangladesh finished sixth. On the other hand, Japan became fifth place in the Asia Cup Hockey. Thus, Japan will play directly in the World Cup Hockey Qualifiers.

But Bangladesh will play a best of three-match against Pakistan. Bangladesh have to win the three-match play-off series against Pakistan, if they want to play in the World Cup Hockey Qualifiers.
Bangladesh conceded 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th goals in the ninth, 15th, 36th, 38th, 50th and 56th minutes. Shinohara of Japan hit a hat-trick. Amirul Islam of Bangladesh returned one in the 55th minute.

It may be mentioned that the champions of the Asia Cup Hockey will directly play in the World Cup Hockey. On the other hand, the runners-up, third, fourth and fifth-place achiever teams of the Asia Cup Hockey will play in the World Cup Hockey Qualifiers.

The red-and-green outfit bounced back after thrashing Chinese Taipei by 8-3 goals in their second Pool-B match of Asia Cup Hockey at the same venue on August 30.

Bangladesh finished their Pool-B campaign of Asia Cup Hockey with a sorrow note as they suffered a 1-5 goals defeat to South Korea on September 1.
