Expatriates send $5.24b from July to September 3

The expatriates have sent $5.24 billion from July to September 3 in the current fiscal year 2025-26. In the previous fiscal year, expatriates sent $4.44 billion in remittances in the same period. Accordingly, remittances have grown by 17.9 per cent.

Inflow of remittances witnessed a year-on-year growth of 11.6 percent (pc), reaching US$343 million in the first three days of September, according to the latest data of Bangladesh Bank (BB) issued yesterday.

Last year, during the same period, the country’s remittance inflow was $307 million.
The expatriates sent a record US$2.48 billion in remittances in July and $2.42 billion in August.
Bangladesh received $30.33 billion in remittances in the fiscal year 2024-25. This represents a 27 per cent increase from the $23.74 billion received in FY2023-24.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh’s foreign exchange reserves have stood at $31.43 billion.
But, as per the International Monetary Fund (IMF) methodology under the Balance of Payments and International Investment Position Manual (BPM6), Bangladesh’s foreign exchange reserves stood at $26.45 billion till September 02.
