Rampal Power Plant makes fresh record

Staff Reporter :

The Maitree Super Thermal Power Plant in Rampal, Bagerhat, has achieved a fresh record in electricity generation.

In August, the plant produced 771.70 million units of electricity with a 78.58pc Plant Load Factor, contributing 7.15pc to the nation’s overall generation of 10,100 million units.

“Over the past three months, the plant has consistently generated more than 600 million units monthly, reaching a cumulative total of 2,036.4 million units,” said Anwarul Azim, Deputy General Manager (Public Relations) of Bangladesh-India Friendship Power Company (Pvt) Ltd, in a statement on Tuesday.

The release highlighted the plant as a symbol of Bangladesh-India friendship. It noted that although the plant runs on imported coal, it operates with ultra-supercritical technology and advanced environmental safeguards.

These include flue-gas desulfurisation, a modern electrostatic precipitator, a 275-meter stack, closed-cycle cooling, and a zero liquid discharge system, ensuring clean and sustainable electricity generation.
“By providing reliable and affordable power, the Maitree Power Plant is fostering industrial expansion, enhancing investor confidence, and reinforcing national energy security,” the statement added.
